What This Experience Is

Japan Hand creates custom experiences around what you actually want to do in Japan. You may have a very specific idea that does not exist as a normal tour: meeting a particular type of artisan, visiting a workshop that does not accept tourists, finding a regional food producer, attending a local event, learning a traditional skill, visiting somewhere outside the usual tourist route, or simply spending a day doing something that interests you.

You do not need to know how to arrange it. Tell us what you have in mind, where you will be staying and when you are available. Your helper works out who to contact, what is possible, what needs to be arranged in Japanese and whether the experience is genuinely available.

If it can be done, we arrange it. If it cannot, we tell you honestly rather than selling you something that is not what you asked for.

The Problems We Solve

  • Booking platforms sell what has a market – Anything specific or unusual often does not appear on them.
  • Most of Japan has no tourism infrastructure – Many places have no practical way for a visitor to arrange a visit or experience.
  • Access usually depends on a local introduction – Arranging it may require a personal connection and a phone call in Japanese.
  • Small organisations do not respond to foreign enquiries – They may be unable to read the enquiry or know how to respond.
  • Visitors do not know what is possible – They do not ask and often settle for whatever is advertised.
  • Specific interests are poorly served – The tourism industry is largely organised around general sightseeing rather than highly specialised interests.

What Your Helper Does

Your helper starts by understanding what you actually want. They can research and contact local people, businesses, producers, artisans, communities or other relevant contacts. They handle Japanese-language communication and explain your request clearly.

They check availability, timing, location, access requirements and any rules that apply. Where appropriate, they accompany you and interpret throughout the experience. They can also arrange transport, meals, introductions, translations or other practical elements needed to make the experience work. If your original idea is not possible, they will suggest the closest realistic alternative rather than pretending it is the same thing.

Reassurance

You do not need to know how to arrange the experience yourself.

Give us the idea, even if it is vague. Tell us what interests you, what you would like to see or do, and what you want the day to feel like. We will work out what is realistically possible in Japan and tell you what we can arrange before anything is agreed.

Duration

There is no fixed duration. A custom experience can be as short as 1–2 hours or can take an entire day. Multi-day arrangements can also be discussed for more complicated requests.

Pricing

Custom experiences are priced individually. The price depends on what you want, where it takes place, the number of people, how much preparation is required, the language needed, travel time and whether additional services or bookings are involved. Tell us what you have in mind and we will assess it first. You will receive a price before anything is agreed, with no obligation.
